What is an architrave?

Architrave is the decorative wood moulding which sits around the frame or surround of a doorway, window or attic hatch. Architrave has the ability to unify the aesthetic of a room and in particular its woodwork, enhancing the style and decoration of a room and giving it a finished, streamlined appearance.
